Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders affecting children globally. In Nigeria, the prevalence of pediatric epilepsy is on the rise, with many children facing challenges in accessing proper diagnosis and treatment. Epileptic seizures can have a significant impact on a child’s quality of life, development, and educational performance (Akinmoladun et al., 2023). Nurses play a critical role in the management of pediatric epilepsy by providing care, administering medications, educating families, and ensuring follow-up care.
In Adamawa State, where healthcare resources are limited, nurses often serve as the primary healthcare providers for children with epilepsy. They may be responsible for administering anticonvulsant medications, monitoring seizure activity, and providing counseling and education to families on managing the condition at home (Aliyu et al., 2024). However, there is a lack of comprehensive data on the role of nurses in managing pediatric epilepsy, and their specific contributions to treatment outcomes have not been fully evaluated.
This study aims to evaluate the role of nurses in the management of pediatric epilepsy in Adamawa State, focusing on their contributions to diagnosis, treatment, and patient education.
Epilepsy is underdiagnosed and undertreated in many parts of Nigeria, including Adamawa State. Nurses play a vital role in the management of pediatric epilepsy, yet their involvement in care and the effectiveness of their interventions remain unclear. Without proper training and support, nurses may face challenges in providing optimal care for children with epilepsy. This study seeks to evaluate the role of nurses in managing pediatric epilepsy in Adamawa State and identify ways to improve their effectiveness in this role.
This study will focus on nurses working in healthcare facilities in Adamawa State who are involved in the management of pediatric epilepsy. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews with nurses. Limitations include potential biases in self-reporting and variations in the availability of resources across different healthcare facilities.
